The 2024 Subaru Solterra EV and the Toyota bZ4X are two innovative electric SUVs that were designed in collaboration. Although they share some common features, the Solterra embodies the rugged spirit of adventure, versatility, and practicality that Subaru is known for. From higher ground clearance to help drivers conquer challenging terrain to exciting new features that prioritize comfort and safety, the Solterra shines as a compelling option for SUV enthusiasts that value sustainability and environmental impact.
If you’re searching for an efficient, capable, and adventure-ready electric SUV, take a closer look at the Subaru Solterra. See how it compares to the Toyota bZ4X below.
The Solterra comes standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) so you can drive with confidence. The drivetrain delivers variable power directly to all wheels for enhanced stability and control in various conditions and terrain. It also includes Subaru StarDrive® technology. Built upon dual 80 kW motors and a durable 72.8 kWh battery, the Solterra produces 249 pound-feet of torque and 215 horsepower (hp).
By contrast, the Toyota bZ4X does not come standard with AWD. Furthermore, it doesn’t offer standard dual motors. Instead, bZ4X base trims include a single 150 kW motor, which only allows the Toyota EV to generate 196 pound-feet of torque and 201 horsepower.
Designed with a class-leading 8.3 inches of ground clearance and short overhangs, the Solterra can easily maneuver through tough terrain, including steep inclines and declines. All 2024 Solterra trims are also equipped with X-MODE® Dual Mode System with Hill Descent Control, a complementary feature to our Symmetrical AWD that provides enhanced traction, grip, and power on-demand.
Compared to the Solterra, the bZ4X may not be the best option for drivers that want an adventurous off-road EV SUV. It doesn’t come standard with X-MODE on all its trims like the Solterra does, and it has lower ground clearance (8.1 inches).
Built with identical 72.8 kWh batteries, both the 2024 Subaru Solterra and the Toyota bZ4X boast a range around 227 miles on AWD models.
Likewise, both vehicles perform similarly in terms of electricity efficiency on comparable AWD trims, reaching up to 104 MPGe combined city/highway.
With an impressive suite of intelligent safety features that help drivers avoid or mitigate hazards, the Solterra is the most advanced Subaru to date.
One of the most significant safety features in the EV SUV is the all-new hands-free Traffic Jam Assist
The Solterra also comes with Lane Change Assist and Front Cross Traffic Alert. Lane Change Assist
