Ashley P., Corpus Christi, TX
FULL STORY
In 2006, my car lost control on a backcountry road. My car flipped four times and hit two trees. I broke two bones in my neck and three in my back. I was 16. I’m fine now and have hardly any pain. But this car saved my life. I saw your commercial, and I figured you would want to hear my story. Thank you for your amazing cars!!!
“They walked away with minor bumps and bruises”
Mark S., Longmont, CO
FULL STORY
A week before Christmas, my 19-year-old son was traveling in his 2002 Forester with his friend on unfamiliar roads. He did not see a stop sign and was broadsided by a full-sized Dodge pickup. They walked away with minor bumps and bruises. This was my family's fifth Subaru, but not our last. Thank you, Subaru, for your work on keeping my family safe.
Every day in the U.S., more than 1,000 people are injured in crashes reported to have involved a distracted driver. As an industry leader in safety, Subaru developed the Subaru DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System™, one of the first technologies of its kind.
Engineered for both new and experienced drivers, Subaru DriverFocus works together with Subaru EyeSight® to help detect distracted or drowsy driving. If the driver’s attention strays from the road for too long, Subaru DriverFocus can deliver visual and auditory alerts to bring attention back to the road — it’s like having a copilot along for the ride.
Subaru engineers never stop thinking of new and innovative ways to keep our vehicles on the leading edge of safety.
“Then I overcorrected and slid off of a hundred foot hill.”

FULL STORY
When I was 1, my mother’s dear old ’78 Subaru wagon finally died. Being a Subaru lover, she promptly went to the nearest dealer and bought a ’97 Legacy Wagon. Sixteen years later, I inherited this car (as she now owns a 2010 Outback). Driving to watch my best friend graduate, I rounded a corner in the pouring rain only to find a big truck towing a trailer in my lane. I swerved to avoid it and slid into the ditch. Then, I overcorrected and slid off a hundred foot hill. When the cops arrived, they found me badly shaken but, amazingly, unhurt. My car had hit a tree, then rolled twice, and finally came to a rest against a barbed-wire fence in a horse pasture. I was told that I was lucky to be alive but that my car was most likely totaled and that a tow truck was needed. After an hour of trying to get to it with a towrope, they realized that approach wasn't going to work. We went out on a limb and decided to try and start my car. To everyone’s surprise, my little trooper drove away from that accident. Without even a bruise, I have Subaru to thank for my life.
“Subaru saved my life that night”
AJ S., Canaan, NY
FULL STORY
When I graduated from college, my grandmother wanted to buy me a new car. She insisted on getting me a Subaru Forester, not only because I loved it, but because she didn't want her favorite grandson to drive anything that wasn't completely safe. Last night, another car missed a stop sign and hit my Forester on the passenger side. I flipped twice, hit a telephone pole, a fire hydrant and rolled into a gas station. Both airbags deployed and the car was tipped on its side but I was able to climb out of the passenger's side door. Witnesses, paramedics, police officers and fire fighters were all speechless. They couldn't believe I not only survived the accident, but also escaped it with barely a scratch. I am so thankful my grandmother wouldn't let me drive anything but a Subaru. Now, I'll never drive anything else. Subaru saved my life last night!
“All you parents can probably imagine the terror I felt…”
Misty H., McKinney, TX
FULL STORY
My son and I were driving to his piano lesson. We were almost through a four-way stop when another car going at least 40 mph blew through her stop sign (we think she was texting) and hit us in between the front and back passenger doors. She never braked, so it was a very hard hit. My 12-year-old son was in the passenger seat. All you parents out there can probably imagine the terror I felt at not knowing for a few seconds if he was OK. The force of the impact caused the truck to tip over on its side and then, very slowly, it turned completely upside down. Both my son and I were literally hanging by our seatbelts. It was the scariest 5 minutes of my life but, thanks to the Subaru Forester, we both were able to crawl out of the truck and walk away from the wreck. The driver of the other car was taken to the hospital. Our truck was totaled, but our new vehicle is definitely going to be another Forester because, in our opinion, it saved our lives or at least kept us from being severely injured. If you look at the picture, you can see why we feel that way. All of the side airbags deployed, so we were not showered with glass. There is a huge dent in the door where the other car hit us, but the door held. The truck absorbed the impact so well that we weren’t shaken too badly. So, thanks Subaru! It was a horrible thing to have happened, but you helped us walk away.
“It was crumpled, smoking and the windshield was shattered.”
Amanda J., Alexandria, VA
FULL STORY
This spring, my baby brother begged to drive my Subaru to prom instead of the family van. I gave in, and I thank God every day that I did. At 3 a.m. that night, he dropped his date off and called to tell me he would be home in an hour. Not 45 min. later, I got another call from him saying, “Amanda, I'm ok.” My heart stopped beating. He said, “I fell asleep and had an accident. Please come get me.” It seemed to take an eternity to get the 5 miles to where he was. I couldn’t help but panic when I saw my car. It was crumpled, smoking, and the windshield was shattered. It was smashed against the northbound barrier wall. Then I saw my brother walking around, seemingly OK. I couldn’t believe it. My brother was unharmed, with the exception of a little bruise where his right knee had hit the center console, but my car was totaled. We found out my brother had been traveling south when he dozed off, hit the southbound barrier, went across two lanes of traffic, the grass hill median, and the two northbound lanes of traffic before crashing into the northbound wall. The scariest news of the night was when our mechanic friend told us, and the cop readily agreed, that if my brother had been driving the van, it would have been a different story. My Subaru saved his life.
