Instructions for Connecting your Android Device

1. On Your Car

  • Go to settings on the vehicle infotainment screen.
  • Go to the “Phone” page.
  • Select “Add Device” / “Add Phone.”
  • Make note of the Device Name. Most likely it will be “Subaru BT.”

2. On Your Android Device

  • On the Android device, go to settings. This step will vary by Android device. Settings can always be found under Apps. On newer Android devices, Apps is opened by swiping up from the bottom of the screen.
  • Select “Connected Devices” or “Connections.”
  • Select “Bluetooth.”
  • At this step, either select “Pair New Device,” or the phone will already be showing nearby devices to add.
  • Select “Subaru BT” or whatever the device name is.
  • Select “Pair” and ensure “Allow access to your contacts and call history” is enabled.
  • Select “Yes” to the Message Access Request pop-up.

3. Back to Your Vehicle Screen

  • On the vehicle screen, confirm the PIN and download phonebook contacts.

4. You’re Finished!

  • At this point, the Android phone should be paired and ready to use.
  • If your phonebook or messages are not appearing correctly, go to “Phone” on your home screen, select “Change Device” under “Overview” and ensure “Phonebook Download” is enabled.
  • If you still cannot access your phonebook or messages, go back to your phone’s Bluetooth settings and select the gear icon next to your vehicle’s device name. Ensure all settings are enabled.
  • Plug the Android phone into the USB port of the vehicle. Ensure a quality USB-IF or MFI cable is being used.
  • For the first time, the below message will appear.
  • Select “Agree.”
  • From here, other prompts might appear. Agree to all.
  • Android Auto might also need to download before working on the vehicle. Allow it to do so.
  • On the vehicle’s infotainment screen, Android Auto should auto-launch for the first time. If not, select the Android Auto icon on the vehicle infotainment screen.
  • Select “Show Me How” for a quick guide on using Android Auto, or “Skip” if you want to start using the app right away.
  • You will be brought to the home page of Android Auto for the user’s phone.
  • Use a high-quality USB-IF or MFI cable.
  • Ensure the Android phone is fully up to date.
  • Ensure the Android Auto App is up to date from the Play Store.
  • Ensure all other apps that work on Android Auto are up to date (Google Maps, Waze, Spotify, etc.). Android Auto might not function correctly if one of these apps is outdated or having an issue. Apps can be updated in the “Play Store” app.
  • If Android Auto won’t launch, open the Android Auto app on the phone, select the top left menu button > Settings > Connected Cars > Select the top right menu icon and choose “Forget All Cars.”
  • If issues persist, uninstall the Android Auto app from the phone and re-install from the Play Store.
