When people face illness, showing support can make a big difference. Every three minutes in the U.S., a new patient joins those diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma, or myeloma. This can be devastating to children and families in our communities. As the largest automotive donor to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® (LLS), we’re proud to provide warmth, love, and relief to those facing cancer. By the end of this year, Subaru and our retailers will have supported nearly 300,000 cancer patients nationwide.
To help support blood cancer patients, visit LLS.org/subaru. For every dollar you donate during Subaru Loves to Care® month from June 1-30, 2023, Subaru will match your online gift to LLS.org dollar for dollar up to $150,000 in total.
Every three minutes in the U.S., a new patient joins those diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma, or myeloma. The recovery is long and often leaves them feeling weak, cold, and isolated. Subaru and our retailers are committed to helping patients through this challenging time while celebrating their strength through the process.
Meet Nikolas Davison. He’s a brave young man who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in November 2016 at 10 years old. Like most cancer patients, his road to recovery was long and challenging. He spent many long nights in the hospital receiving cumbersome treatments with his family by his side. Subaru partnered with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) to provide Nik with a warm blanket, patient care kit, and a hand-written message of hope. This small gesture is just one way Subaru and our retailers are supporting courageous cancer patients like Nik and the families who support them. We’re excited to report that as of this day, Nik has completed all chemo treatments.
Through the LLS Patient Aid Program, we are providing financial relief to over 8,500 blood cancer patients. These funds help offset non-medical costs associated with treatment, such as transportation, food, housing, and utilities. One patient who benefited from this program is James. He was diagnosed with Stage 3 follicular lymphoma (FL) at the end of 2017. Although it was difficult news to accept at first, he kept his head up. He approached his treatments with an optimistic outlook and turned a hard situation into an opportunity for growth. Upon overcoming cancer, James gained the confidence to try things outside his comfort zone. He now runs marathons for causes and encourages others with his story.
This June, as a part of the Subaru Loves to Care initiative, Subaru and our retailers are partnering with LLS and their local hospital or cancer treatment center to give warm blankets and encouraging messages of hope written by retailers and Subaru customers in their stores to support patients facing cancer.
Five Star Subaru in Grapevine, Texas and Cook Children’s Medical Center came together last year to provide an extra-special event for the patients at Cook Children’s Medical Center. Five Star Subaru partnered with the hospital to provide a virtual art contest for the patients using arts and crafts kits that they graciously donated. This show was aired on “The Child Life Zone Network”, a livestream TV station viewable by patients to join along either in person or from their hospital rooms. The patients’ projects were then displayed on Cook Children’s Instagram Stories, where the community could send messages with their votes. Thanks to Five Star Subaru of Grapevine, the top three vote-getters received special Subaru mystery prize bags.
On June 23, 2022, the patients of Sanford Hematology and Oncology were blessed with words of encouragement and so much more! Throughout June, customers of Schulte Subaru were invited to write notes of encouragement that were then delivered with arts and crafts kits and 80 warm blankets to cancer patients in the hope of bringing comfort and support to them during their treatment. But the generous Schulte family didn’t stop there. They made a stop at Walmart and fulfilled the Sanford Children’s Wish List! A car full of toys, games, and more were added to their already generous donation. Mike and Sarah Schulte have always gone way above and beyond and last year was no exception.
On October 29, 2022, the team at Gold Rush Subaru participated in the local Light the Night event through their partnership with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Light the Night is an annual event held to bring light to the darkness of cancer by funding lifesaving research and support for people facing cancer. The Gold Rush Subaru family embraced and supported a local leukemia survivor, Matthew, and his family. As they walked with their lanterns, Matthew and his family were surrounded by Gold Rush Subaru employees. The family truly felt the powerful impact of the evening and the hope that was being given to all.
